New year Resolutions

Happy New Year! It is that time of the year once again when we all make our promises to ourselves and write it all down and all that hullabaloo that comes with the New Year. When I was much younger and I saw people on T.V reeling out their New Year resolutions I always felt envious of these people cos they have a plan of how they want their year to be, but as I grew older envy changed to pity.
I don't get why you people would make a resolution like, I plan to quit drinking and in your subconscious you are already counting the number of drinks you are going to have that afternoon and the next and the next, till the end of that very same year or I plan to earn more money this year and no plan is in your head to get a new job or even a promotion.

I’m not against people making plans on how they want their immediate futures to be, but why disappoint the universe, the paper you wrote on and yourself. One thing we haven’t noticed is that when we make these promises and we can’t fulfill them, at the end of the year we feel under-achieved and inadequate; that’s when we see some people come December trying to do everything possible to travel to the village and prove to themselves that they have achieved something when they haven’t even started the journey to achievement.
To me, making a list of your New Year resolutions is like promising a child to take them to study outside the country. That child will never forget the promise, but you that made it in a spur of the moment has no memory whatsoever of that promise. The saying that goes “if you fail to plan you have planned to fail” doesn’t always work, if you know you don’t have the willpower to keep big promises, then don’t make any. It’s not a bad thing or even a sin to not make plans. Why don’t you try something this year make really simple and easy to do resolutions. Take them step by step just start with really small plans and even if at the end of the year you haven’t achieved you goal but you are getting closer to your promise; carry it over, and don’t feel that stupid need to add more.
